Charge Air Cooler Testing

Brazel’s RV Performance employs the Dura-Lite® Charge Air Cooler Tester-Kit® which is designed and manufactured to be used to pressure test Charge Air Coolers in a safe and efficient manner. All modern diesel powered motorhomes utilize turbochargers to provide the needed torque and horsepower to get the coach up the hills and achieve fuel economy not attainable otherwise. In order for the turbocharger to work effectively it must be able to feed the engine cool, dense air and that is where the Charge Air Cooler or Intercooler comes into play.  A Charge Air Cooler is used to cool engine air after it has passed through a turbocharger before it enters the engine. The idea is to return the air to a lower temperature, for the optimum power for the combustion process within the engine. An engine that has a leaking Charge Air Cooler will waste fuel and decrease engine performance. It can also lead to elevated soot levels in the oil, premature piston, ring and valve failures as well as elevated coolant temperatures, exhaust manifold failure and turbocharger failure.
